Disciplinary for the production of wines with controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin
Albana of Romagna

Article 1
The controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin Albana di Romagna is reserved for wine already recognized to D.O.C. by decree of the President of the Republic 21 July 1967, which responds to the conditions and requirements established in this production specification.

Article 2
The wine with denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin Albana di Romagna must be obtained from the grapes of the Albana vine produced in the production area referred to in the following art. 3.

Article 3
The production area of ​​the Albana di Romagna controlled and guaranteed designation of origin is made up of the part of the territory of Romagna suitable for the production of the wine in question, namely:
Province of Forlì: municipalities of Castrocaro and Terra del Sole, Forlì, Forlimpopoli, Meldola, Bertinoro, Cesena, Montiano, Roncofreddo, Savignano sul Rubicone, Longiano.
For the municipalities of Savignano sul Rubicone, Cesena, Forlimpopoli and Forlì, the downstream limit is delimited as follows:
Municipality of Savignano sul Rubicone: from the highway n. 9 Emilia;
Municipality of Cesena: from the border with the municipality of Savignano follow the state road n. 9 until it meets Pestalozzi shore, follows this and then Via Marzolino Primo up to the Rimini-Bologna railway line which follows until it meets the state road no. 71-bis, from this it takes via municipal Redichiaro, via Brisighella then again along the highway n. 71-bis, then follows the streets Vicinale Cerchia, S. Egidio, Via Comunale Boscone, Via Madonna dello Schioppo, Via Cavalcavia, Via DAltri up to the Savio river and the municipal hippodrome to then rejoin the state road n. 9 Emilia north of the city (km. 30,650) which runs up to the border with the municipality of Forlimpopoli;
Municipality of Forlimpopoli: from the border with the municipality of Cesena follow the state road n. 9 until the meeting with Via Della Madonna which follows until the meeting with the Rimini-Bologna railway, then continues along the same until the meeting with Via S. Leonardo. Follow this until you rejoin the highway n. 9 which runs up to the border of the municipality of Forlì;
Municipality of Forlì: from the border with the municipality of Forlimpopoli follow the state road n. 9 until the meeting with Via San Siboni, follow this street and then the Via Dragoni, Paganella, T. Baldoni, Gramsci, Bertini, G. Orceoli, Somalia, Tripoli, Bengasi, Cadore, Monte S. Michele, Gorizia, Isonzo, from the latter follow the Rimini-Bologna railway to the km. 59, then on Via Zignola it rejoins north of the city to the highway n. 9 which runs up to the border with the municipality of Faenza.
Province of Ravenna: municipalities of Castelbolognese, Riolo Terme, Faenza, Casola Valsenio, Brisi-ghella.
For the municipalities of Faenza and Castelbolognese the downstream limit is delimited as follows:
Municipality of Faenza: from the border with the municipality of Forlì where this meets the highway n. 9 follows the aforementioned border up to the Rimini-Bologna railway line which runs until it meets the left bank of the Lamone river, and then on Via S. Giovanni and via Formellino, Ravegnana, Borgo S. Rocco, Granarolo, Provelta, S. Silvestro , Scolo Cerchia, Convertite, rejoins north of the city to said railway which follows up to the municipal border of Castelbolognese;
Municipality of Castelbolognese: from the Rimini-Bologna railway.
Province of Bologna: municipalities of Borgo Tossignano, Casalfiumanese, Castel San Pietro Terme, Dozza Imolese, Fontanelice, Imola, Ozzano Emilia.
For the municipalities of Imola and Ozzano Emilia the downstream limits are as follows:
town of Imola, from the Rimini-Bologna railway to the junction with the Selice state road. It follows the same until it meets the Via Provinciale Nuova which follows until it resumes its municipal border at the entrance of the aforementioned road in the municipality of Castel Guelfo:
Municipality of Ozzano Emilia: from the Rimini-Bologna railway.

Article 4
The environmental and cultivation conditions of the vineyards destined for the production of Albana di Romagna wine must be the traditional ones of the area and, in any case, suitable for giving the grapes and the wine derived the specific characteristics. The planting layouts, training systems and pruning systems must be those generally used and, in any case, suitable for not changing the characteristics of the grapes and wine.
Any forcing practice is excluded.
They cannot be registered in the register referred to in art. 10 of the decree of the President of the Republic 12 July 1963, n. 930, the vineyards planted in moist soils, or poorly exposed or otherwise unsuitable for producing quality grapes.
The maximum yield of grapes allowed for the production of Albana di Romagnaon wine must be greater than 140 quintals per hectare of vineyards in specialized cultivation and to this limit, even in exceptionally favorable years, the yield must be reported through an accurate selection of the grapes , provided that the production does not exceed the limit by 20%.
Until the end of three years following the entry into force of this specification, without prejudice to the maximum limit indicated above, the yield per hectare in the promiscuous crop must be calculated in relation to the actual area covered by the vine.
The President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, with his decree, after consulting the trade organizations concerned, year after year, before the harvest, can establish a maximum limit of grape production per hectare lower than that set by this specification, giving immediate communication to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests and to the National Committee for the Protection of Denominations of Origin of Wines.
The maximum yield of grapes in wine must not exceed 65%, but for the passito type no more than 50%.
If the yield exceeds this limit, the surplus will not be entitled to the D.O.C.G. and will be taken over by the interested party as table wine or other.

Article 5
The winemaking operations must be carried out within the production area delimited in the previous art. 3. However, taking into account traditional production situations, it is allowed that these operations are also carried out within the entire territory of the province of Forlì, Ravenna and the municipality of Bologna.
The grapes destined for winemaking must ensure the wine has an overall minimum natural alcohol content of 11 degrees.

Article 6
Albana di Romagna wine can be released for consumption in the dry (dry), sweet, sweet, and passito types which must meet the following characteristics respectively.
Dry Albana of Romagna:
color: straw yellow, tending towards golden for aged products;
smell: with a slight characteristic Albana scent;
flavor: dry, slightly tannic, warm and harmonious;
minimum overall alcohol content: 11.50 degrees;
reducing sugars to carry out: maximum 4 grams per liter;
total acidity: not less than 5 grams per liter;
net dry extract: not less than 17 grams per liter.
Lovable Albana di Romagna:
color: straw yellow, tending towards golden for aged products;
odor: characteristic of Albana;
flavor: fruity, sweet, pleasant, characteristic;
minimum overall alcohol content: 12 degrees;
reducing sugars to carry out: from 12 to 45 grams per liter;
total acidity: not less than 5 grams per liter;
net dry extract: not less than 17 grams per liter.
Sweet Albana of Romagna:
color: straw yellow, tending towards golden for aged products;
odor: characteristic of Albana;
flavor: fruity, sweet, pleasant, characteristic;
minimum overall alcohol content: 12 degrees;
reducing sugars to carry out: over 45 grams per liter, but not exceeding 80 grams per liter;
total acidity: not less than 5 grams per liter;
net dry extract: not less than 17 grams per liter.
Albana di Romagna passito:
color: golden yellow with an amber tendency;
odor: intense, characteristic;
flavor: velvety, pleasantly sweet or sweet;
minimum overall alcohol content: 15.5 degrees;
minimum alcoholic strength: 12 degrees;
indecomposed reducing sugars: minimum 15 grams per liter;
total acidity: not less than 4.5 grams per liter;
net dry extract: not less than 22 grams per liter.
Obtained by light drying of the grapes which ensures the grapes themselves have a minimum sugar content of 23 grams per liter.
And in the faculty of the Minister of Agriculture and Forests to modify the limits indicated above for total acidity and the net dry extract carried out by decree.

Article 7
The regulation of stricter characteristics and production conditions concerning more restricted areas (sub-areas) can be included in the Albana di Romagna production specification following requests from interested parties that represent at least 20% of the total production claimed in the annual production report for the denomination of the most restricted area.
The application must be submitted in the manner provided by the Presidential Decree of 12 July 1963, n. 930, art. 6.

Article 8.
The qualifications dry (dry), sweet, sweet and passito must appear on the label and are allowed for the different types of Albana di Romagna which have the respective characteristics specified in the previous art. 6.
The Albana di Romagna passito wine cannot be released for consumption before April 1 of the year following the harvest in which it was obtained.

Article 9.
On the bottles or other containers containing Albana di Romagna wine must indicate the year of production of the grapes.
The use of qualifications other than those provided for in this specification is prohibited, including the adjectives extra, superior, fine, chosen, selected and the like.
However, the use of indications that refer to names or company names or private brands is allowed, provided they have no laudatory meaning and are not such as to mislead the purchaser, as well as indications referring to farms or farms or vineyards included in the defined area and from which actually the grapes from which the so qualified vineyard was obtained come.

Article 10.
The indications referred to in Articles 7 and 9 are permitted on condition that the grapes, musts, or wines, with the respective quantities and indications which are intended to be used, are declared, at the time of the application for the production of grapes and wine, in the circulation documents, after noting in the loading and unloading warehouse registers or in the production sheet.

Article 11.
In compliance with art. 7 of the decree of the President of the Republic 12 July 1963, n. 930, the use of the Albana di Romagna controlled and guaranteed designation of origin is not allowed, when released for consumption, for wines contained in containers with a nominal volume of more than 5 liters.
The bottles or other containers containing Albana di Romagna wine, in view of the sale, must be, also as regards clothing, in keeping with the traditional characteristics of a fine wine.
It is in any case forbidden to package the containers with crown caps or flip-off caps.
For the packaging of Albana di Romagna wine in containers with a capacity equal to and greater than half a liter, only the one-piece cork stopper or agglomerated cork must be used.

Article 12.
For the purpose of issuing the state mark, the wine with Albana di Romagna controlled and guaranteed designation of origin must be subjected to the tasting test required by point 4 of art. 5 of the decree of the President of the Republic 12 July 1963, n. 930.
This tasting test must be carried out by a special commission, according to the regulations issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, after hearing the opinion of the National Committee for the Protection of Denominations of Origin of Wines.

Article 13.
The wines that, following the tasting foreseen by art. 930, do not have the characteristics prescribed by this specification, definitively lose the right to the denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin, with the consequent annotations and notifications required by law.

Article 14.
Anyone who produces, sells, offers for sale, or in any case distributes for the consumption with the denomination of controlled and guaranteed Albana di Romagna wines that do not meet the conditions and requirements established by this production specification, is punished in accordance with art. 28 of the decree of the President of the Republic 12 July 1963, n. 930.
